BOX AND LOCKS

The new Palm Ridge dues box has been installed.  It is located at the beginning of the walkway between courts 5&7.  Dues envelopes are inside the mailbox...just fill out the envelope, enclose your check for $10 and drop it in the slot (do not put it back inside the mailbox).

All locks have been removed from the Palm Ridge Courts.  It is no longer necessary to stay off the courts for two days following any rain.

ALL PALM RIDGE COURTS OPEN ON MONDAY FOR PLAY

Effective February 8, all 10 courts will be open at Palm Ridge.  All 10 courts will be repainted mid-March.   Click here for the revised list of activities and locations (same as the one handed out at our grand opening with the following exception:  In February the New Players Day on Saturday will be 11-12:30 on Feb. 6 and 13; 9:30-11 on Feb. 20; and 10-11:30 on Feb. 27).

When playing at Palm Ridge, you will need to sign in at the table on the left side of the restrooms.  Please make sure you sign in on the pickleball sheet...not the tennis sheet which is located on the same table.  The first aid box, telephone and defibulator are also located at that table.  A mailbox has been installed at the beginning of the walkway and will be our new dues box.  The envelopes used to pay your dues will be inside the mailbox (there is also a dues box located at the RHJohnson courts attached to the bulletin board).

Three baskets have been hung inside the courts in which you can put any cracked/broken balls.  A supply of pickleballs will be kept in the storage box at the end of the walkway, along with any lost/found items.  The combination is the same as the box at RHJohnson.

If you are playing in the evening, the light switches to turn on the lights are located on the light poles.  The light switch for courts 1-4 is located between courts 1 and 3; the light switch for courts 5&6 is located on the walkway on court 5; the light switch for courts 7-10 is located on the walkway on court 7.  If you flip the switch and nothing happens, it is because the lights are on a timer and are set to come on just before dusk.  The switch must be turned on for them to come on at dusk.  The lights are set to turn off at 10:00 pm; however, if you are the last players to leave in the evening and it is prior to 10:00, please turn the lights off.  There are two lights in the walkway that will remain lit so you can see to exit the courts.

WHAT DOES A
AND PICKLEBALL
HAVE IN COMMON?
The Answer is:  52.  We had 52 people show up on Monday, Feb. 1, for lessons.  The saying, if you build it, they will come certainly is true of our new pickleball courts at Palm Ridge.  We have lessons every Monday at 11:00 and could really use some help, along with any old paddles you can donate to the Club.  Please contact Charlie Robinson (810-3008) if you can help us out.

OUR FIRST 2010 CLUB TOURNAMENT

On Saturday, February 20, at 1:00 pm we will have a dinking tournament.  The entire game will be played at the kitchen line.  This tournament will help you develop a soft shot and help you practice ball placement.  The tournament is open to all Club members of all skill levels.  Players from the higher skill level will be partners with players from the lower skill levels.  Partners will be drawn on Wednesday, February 17. We hope all new members will sign up and give it a try.  Prizes will be awarded.

The tournament will be held at Palm Ridge Courts. Registration fee is $3.00.  You can drop your check (no cash) in the slot of our mailbox attached to the bulletin board at the RHJohnson courts (envelopes are inside the mailbox).  Checks should be made payable to SCW Pickleball Club.  Sign-up sheets will be located on the bulletin board at RHJohnson and at the Palm Ridge Courts.  Deadline to sign-up and pay your fee is Tuesday, February 16.

Contact Linda Swift (556-8070) with any questions.

Pickleball is a mini-tennis-like game played on a badminton-sized court that began in the Puget Sound region of the State of Washington.  It is played with a wood or composite paddle and a perforated, slow-moving ball over a tennis net lowered to 34 inches.  It is easy for beginners to learn, but can soon develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.
