SEPTEMBER GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Our first general membership meeting for the Fall season will be held at Palm Ridge, Summit Hall B, on Tuesday, September 28 from 1:00-3:00.  We will have an ice cream social in conjunction with the membership meeting.  You can make your own sundaes while catching up on your Club activities and socializing with those who have been gone for the summer.  We need a minimum of 55 people at this meeting for a quorum so please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

ARE YOU OUT THERE?

 WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!

Our Club continues to grow at a rapid pace.  We have grown beyond our wildest expectations and now have over 546 members enjoying this sport.  The Club is very active and offers you many, many programs, tournaments and club activities to enjoy.

It is that time of year again to elect officers for 2011.  Next year will be a very important year for our Club.  We will be hosting not only a one day tournament for the Arizona Senior Olympics, but also our very first invitational tournament which we anticipate will draw players from all over the valley who want to play at our new Palm Ridge Courts.  This is our chance to showcase our Club, our courts and our community.

Please consider stepping forward to guide our Club through this very exciting year; we really need you to get involved.  Contact Jack Steiner, chairman of the Nominating Committee, and let him know you want to be an officer in 2011.  You can reach him at 623-584-2054 or 623-326-2746.  We are seeking candidates for all positions:  President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director-at-Large.  We have a lot of talented, hard working members out there; please step up and say you will do your part for your Club.

INDOOR PICKLEBALL

Indoor pickleball at Palm Ridge has ended for this season.  There was a large crowd at the last open drop-in session as everyone enjoyed the air conditioning.  We hope to see all of you at the outdoor courts--bright and early so you can beat the heat.  Thank you to Sandy Woods, Reg Crowley, Martha Wasserman and Howard Higgins for tearing down the court.

Pickleball is a mini-tennis-like game played on a badminton-sized court that began in the Puget Sound region of the State of Washington.  It is played with a wood or composite paddle and a perforated, slow-moving ball over a tennis net lowered to 34 inches.  It is easy for beginners to learn, but can soon develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.
