If you haven’t been by the new Perfect Pocket Strike Pro Shop, be sure to stop by and visit with Dennis Klein. Dennis is a certified ball driller as well as a USBC Silver certified bowling coach. He was also chosen by the USBC to assist in opening pro shops in Russia. Pro Shop summer hours will be 9:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 9:00am to 7:00pm Monday and Thursday. They will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. Come in and meet Dennis and check out the large selection of bowling equipment and services available. Residents who show their SCW Rec. Card will receive a discount on purchases. 3RD ANNUAL SENIOR PBA OPEN
Mark your calendars now to attend the 3rd Annual Senior PBA Open Bowling Tournament, sponsored by Long King Realtor® and Quality Inn & Suites of Sun Cities, which will be held on Tuesday, May 29th and Wednesday, May 30th. If you are interested in bowling with the pros, Win-A-Spot qualifying tournaments will be held at 10:00 AM on Sunday, May 20th and on Sunday, May 27th. Entry fee is $50. Winning league teams are in the process of vying for the annual House Championship. The last day for the roll-offs will be tomorrow, May 4th between the hours of 10 AM and 1 PM. Handicap is 90% of 220 for standard leagues and 90% of 240 for No Tap. Teams may pick members from 2nd place teams if necessary.
SUMMER LEAGUES
Summer Leagues are now in full swing. Tuesday Repeats meet at 9:30 AM; Wednesday No Tap meets Wednesdays at 1:00 PM, while Thursday Greenhorns meet at 9:30 AM on Thursdays. There are still a few spots open and sign-up books for all leagues are available on the league desk in the Sports Pavilion. Mel Shirey’s May Red Pin-No Tap event will honor all mothers with an ice cream social on May 12 at 4:00 PM. Treat your favorite mom and sign her up for the event. Entry fee is $13.
MANAGER’S SUMMER SPECIALS
Bowlers may now purchase a VIP card for $35.00 that will entitle them to bowl from May 1st through July 29th at a special rate of $1.25 per game. This is a great deal for all of you league bowlers who have resolved to spend the summer improving your game and escaping the Arizona heat at the same time!
Wednesdays in May will feature a special of 3 games of bowling and your choice of any sandwich plate from the menu at the Strike Zone Restaurant for $12. Special prices will be in effect from 11:00 AM through 2:00 PM.
Beginning Tuesday, May 1st, Tuesdays will be “Spin to Win Day.” Bowlers can pay $.50 to spin the wheel for discounts on open bowling prices. Discounts range from 0-60%.
BASCW NEWS
Club members paid final respects this week to member Eleanor Roady, wife of club treasurer, Bob Roady. Eleanor was a vibrant and talented lady, who, along with Bob, had been a fixture at the club’s events for many years. She will be missed.
Bowling Association members are gathering on Tuesdays at 1:30 PM for the club’s annual Summer Red Pin event. The club will be sponsoring this event every Tuesday from now through the end of July. Details and signup books are available on the League desk in the Sports Pavilion.
Club members will want to note the change in start time for the No-Tap events during the summer months. The next club No-Tap will be held on Saturday, May 5th at 4:00 PM, rather than the previous start time of 5:30 PM.
COACHING PROGRAM
The Coaching Program continues to attract bowlers wishing to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their game under the expert tutelage of Marty & Joni Bell, two of only five certified USBC Silver coaches in Arizona. Bob Roady, Bill Poff and Bruce Lamb, all USBC Bronze level coaches, have also joined the coaching staff for the Friday afternoon coaching sessions. All five coaches volunteer their time to the program; students pay only for their lineage. Lineage cost is $5.00 per session and sign-up books are available in Johnson Lanes.
