Halloween
Dig out
those scary costumes you have stashed away and get ready
for the annual Halloween Red Pin to be held on
Saturday, Oct. 30th at 5:30 PM. Prizes
will be awarded for best costumes, so be sure to get
your name in now, while there are still a few spots
open. Cost is $10.
King of the HIll
There is
a new king on the hill. Cal Shirey dethroned Jim
Bumgard during last Sunday’s tournament. Next challenge
will be on Sunday, November 21st. If you are
interested in giving King Cal a run for his
money, call Dennis Barnes at 623-229-2010.
Learn to Bowl
Check out
Marie Forman’s Bowling Clinics. $25
covers the cost of 3 sessions with Marie and her staff,
and includes shoes and lineage. If you’re new to the
game or haven’t picked up a ball in a long time, check
out Marie’s classes. Next class meets on Wed., Nov.
3 at 8:30 a.m. and will continue through the 3rd
week of November. We all benefit from a review of the
basics!
Mentor
Program
If you
are currently bowling and would like to improve your
scores or make more regular contact with that elusive
10-pin, sign up for the Mentor Program. Some of
the best bowlers in our community volunteer their time
to help you with all facets of your game. Class starts
at 9:00 AM on the first Saturday of every month.
Sign up now for the Nov 6th class. It
is definitely worth the $5 for lineage!
Upcoming Tournaments
Mark
your calendar for Sunday, November 21st,
when Johnson Lanes will be hosting the Arizona
Classic Bowlers Association (ACBA) for this annual
event. Bowling begins at 10:00 AM and continues through
5:00 PM.
League Openings
There are
still openings in several of the fall/winter leagues.
Stop by the monitor’s desk at the Pavilion or give us a
call at 544-6140. We will be happy to put you in
touch with league secretaries. Remember, league
vacancies may now be filled by non-residents who are at
least 50 years of age, so if you are not a resident of
Sun City West, you can now join a league and bowl with
us. Have a friend who would like to bowl, but doesn’t
live in SCW? He or she can now bowl right along with
you!
Carry your Rec Card!
Scanners
will be installed in all facilities in coming weeks, so
remember to carry your Rec card with you when
participating in activities in the Sports Pavilion as
well as in all other SCW facilities.
BASCW Hall of Fame
The
Bowling Association Hall of Fame will be inducting its
newest member on Saturday, Oct. 23rd.
Glenn Compton will be honored for his many years of
service in the promotion of the Association’s
interests. Congratulations, Glenn, and thanks for the
many hours of your time you have so selflessly given to
the club.
Open Bowling
Fall &
Winter leagues are in full swing and time slots for open
bowling are harder to come by. If you have been turned
away because of a full house, stop and ask Carol,
Al, Bill, Tani, Mel or Pat for a
schedule to post on your refrigerator. While you are
there, say hello to our newest monitor, “Andy.”
She’s a long-time bowler with a great smile and will be
happy to answer your questions.
Club Specials
Chartered
clubs can now take advantage of a “Club Special” reduced
group rate of three games for $5 per person,
including rental shoes and instruction provided by Marie
and her team of instructors. To learn more about this
program, call Marie at 640-6170.
Sports Pavilion Advertising
Clubs are
also entitled to special club rates for advertising club
events on the overheads at the Sports Pavilion. If your
club has an event coming up, you can count on reaching
large numbers of people by using this advertising
venue. Call Tani at 544-6171 for more
information.
Resident Classified Ads
Looking
for something to buy or sell? We will gladly post ads
for residents for the low cost of $1 for 2 weeks with
the first 2-week renewal free. Lost & Found ads are
posted at no cost. Your trash today could be your
neighbor’s treasure tomorrow!
